A week ago I agreed to review some books from Harrison House, Inc. a Christian book publisher. I was sent a package of five books one of which was The Complete Personalized Promise Bible by James Riddle. I am not a scholar of the Bible, but I can tell you that this is not the complete Bible. Just opening the book to Matthew, the first entry is Matthew 4:1-11 KJV and the next entry is Matthew 4:4 Message and the next is Matthew 4:6 NKJV. This last entry Matthew 4:6 says

And the devil said to him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: 'He shall give His angels charge over you,' and, 'In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.'"

The promise or Declaration of Faith is

The Angels of God are watching over me to keep me from all harm.

Then in the back of the book is a Topical Index and under THE MINISTRY ANGELS ON YOUR BEHALF IS Matthew 4:6 and at least 20 other places like Genesis 48:15,16.
This particular book is about meditations on the promises in the Bible.
Meditation is defined in the book as "to speak to one's self in a low tone of voice.".

If you want to be successful as Christians, we need to speak God's Word to ourselves day and night. James 3:2,4 tells us how powerful our words truly are. He tells us our tongue is the very rudder of our lives.

The author James Riddle goes on to say

When we begin to understand the awesome power in our words, we will not be so quick to speak. We see how the seed of our words will bring us the things of life or the things of death. If this is true of our own personal words, how much more powerful is it when we speak the Word of God into our lives?

Let me approach the validity of those words in a secular way based on a website I found today:
THE SECRET: THOUGHTS BECOME THINGS .
The law of attraction states that "like attracts like." If you "see" yourself living in abundance you will attract abundance. If you see yourself in a state of "want" you will attract what you don't have. It's like worry. If you constantly think about your fears, you attract those things you think about. I call it negative self-talk. Think back on conversations you've had with yourself and others.
"I'm not good at math."
"I can't draw."
"I'm not good at attracting men/women."
"I'm fat!"
"I'm not good at sports."
You still doubt? Riddle quotes

Psalm 138:2 God has placed His Word higher than His name.

Why do we <s>pray</s> say grace at meals??

1 Timothy 4:4,5 Our food is cleansed and sanctified through the Word.

What is the promise?

God watches over His Word and promises to perform it in our lives. Jeremiah1:12

Now that is a promise!

Christian Book Review - <i>The Jordan Tracks</i>

I am finally writing the book review of The Jordan Tracks by Steven W. Wise. The book tells about a mother Christa Bates and her son Aaron, who is a Marine in Vietnam in 1968. The two share a strong Christian faith. The boy's father Ernie

could only invoke a spirit world that he knew existed, but did not trust.

The author makes use of his real experiences in a turkey slaughtering plant in the mid-west. He captures the language of the people and in some ways they seem naive and insular, maybe it was the time, 1968.

Those friends of Christa and Ernie all knew about Vietnam and whose kids were fighting there. They all knew the risks and hoped the "angel of death" would not find Columbia, Missouri.
I liked Christa and Harley, Aaron's best friend. They had a quiet calmness to them, based on their faith. They accepted life's challenges knowing they weren't alone and they knew what was right and wrong; the same moral assuredness you see in a good cowboy movie. Black was black, white was white!
I was most interested to read how Ernie could move from being a sceptic about God to accepting of God's love and will for him. While I loved the book and even shed some tears, I was a little disappointed in the ending. I guess what the book does show is that you just need to open the door a crack and invite Him in. He'll take care of the rest!

You should know that on my sidebar is a logo for Mind & Media Exclusive Reviewer. I have agreed to review books of my choosing from a list supplied by Stacy Harp at Mind & Media. They are Christian books. In return for reading and writing a review on my site, Mover Mike receive a listing on the Mind & Media site. I chose to read The Jordan Tracks by Steven W. Wise. I haven't finished the book, but let me say that it tells about a mother Christa Bates and her son Aaron, who is a Marine in Vietnam in 1968. The two share a strong Christian faith. The boy's father Ernie "could only invoke a spirit world that he knew existed, but did not trust." I could have been Aaron in 1968 and I could be a father or a grandfather of a Marine in Iraq. The book is available at Amazon.com You can read it along with me.
