Carly's Gone and We Wuz Robbed!

Is American Idol rigged for a stand off between the two Davids? Are Americans nuts to keep Jason who should have been gone two or three weeks ago?

It used to be that we penalized those who screwed up on the live show.

The two women who sang their hearts out, landed in the bottom two and one had to leave. Syesha or Carly? I can't believe America voted Carly off. She easily should be in the top two. I can't believe these two were even in the bottom two. From now on, if I watch, it will only be to watch Syesha and David Cook sing.

American Idol Tonight
On American Idol tonight:

Michael Johns — Dream On - Didn't like it

Syesha Mercado — I Believe - I love this girl

Jason Castro — Somewhere Over The Rainbow - Kate McPhee did it better

David Cook — Innocent - thought it was terrible and I didn't like the writing on the hand. It was a vote for me, plea.

Carly Smithson — The Show Must Go On - fantastic voice, but she needs to appear less angry or intense

Kristy Lee Cook — Anyway - She's going for the CW vote and this was her best so far

David Archuleta — Angels - hated it!

Brooke White — You’ve Got A Friend - I like her, but comes across as too desparate. Boring song.

Bottom three

1. Brooke White
2. Michael Johns
3. Jason Castro

Still think Jason should go.

American Idol Tonight
Alright it's my guilty little pleasure. I watch American Idol. Tonight's rundown looks like this:

Brooke White performs “Jolene” by Dolly Parton - a bit rushed in parts, but she is a very good CW singer or another Carly Simon

David Cook performs “Little Sparrow” by Dolly Parton - I didn't know the song and frankly thought the song boring, but Cook is in my top five

Ramiele Malubay performs “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind” by Dolly Parton - thought the song was too old for her and she could be in trouble

Jason Castro performs “Travelin’ Thru” by Dolly Parton - apart from the Leonard song a few weeks ago, does not impress me. He has the weakest of the nine voices.

Carly Smithson performs “Here You Come Again” by Dolly Parton - I love to hear this woman sing. My top five

David Archuleta performs “Smoky Mountain Memories” by Dolly Parton - I don't like the way he ends phrases, but in my top five.

Kristy Lee Cook performs “Coat of Many Colors” by Dolly Parton - she's wooden, definately a CW girl. I would like her to stick around a while longer

Syesha Mercado performs “I Will Always Love You” by Dolly Parton - this girl can flat out sing. My top five

Michael Johns performs “It’s All Wrong, But It’s All Right” by Dolly Parton - what's not to like. Top five.

Think Jason castro should leave us this week.

Best Music Video!
Thanks to Ricky for the news. We can vote for the best video between Yung Joc v.s. The Kooks v.s. Katharine McPhee for best MTV video.

You heard right! Katharine McPhee!

And I hear she likes older men. She didn't say "old" men, but then these ears don't pick up the sounds like they used to.

Anyway, Katharine is leading, so head over, watch her moves and vote. Aw, you know who to vote for! Katharine McPhee!

It's Jordin Sparks!

Jordin Sparks wins the Americam Idol competition at 17, the youngest winner in its six year history. How does a 17 year old learn to sing like she does, with the poise and interpretive skills needed?

I will be looking forward to her album and to Melinda Doolittle's. Somehow America got the winner right!

American Idol - The Finals
I'm posting late. I got caught up in the two hour final of Dancing with the stars. Just saw Laila place 3rd! So let's talk about AI.

Blake Lewis sang She Will Be Loved, You Give Love a Bad Name and This is My Now - I thought Blake peaked on song #1 and didn't equal it on song #2 and song #3 This is My Now was nothing special in his hands.

Jordin Sparks sang Broken Wing, Fighter and This is My Now - Jordin took on a Christina Aguilera song Fighter. I thought she did very well. Then she sang Broken Wing and Randy said she sang it better than the original. Finally, she sang This is My Now and nearly dissolved in tears on the final words of the song. Simon said she mopped the floor with Blake. Randy and Simon said she had won the competition.

Jordin looks like an "American Idol". She's great looking, great smile and can really sing. At 17 she has a big future seemingly ahead of her. Unless the voters pull a fast one, Jordin should be crowned American Idol for 2007 tomorrow night.

Melinda Doolittle Goes Home!
That Melinda is going home is really shocking. The most consistent all season, the professional, able to sing "Whitney", I thought, with the speed of a silver bullet, she would barrel her way to the title of American Idol. Not to be. The finale will be between Blake Lewis and Jordin Sparks. My guess is that Jordin will be crowned 2007's American Idol!

American Idol - May 15th
You need Mover Mike to tell you American Idol was a great show??? The three were awesome, each in their own way.

Jordin Sparks sang Wishing On A Star, She Works Hard for the Money and I Who Have Nothing - I really like Jordin. Big smile and a big voice and she's only 17. She has a big future as long as she picks songs like she did tonight. She really sold her last song.

Blake Lewis sang Roxanne, This Love and When I Get You Alone - The most original of the three and I can see him as a record producer. Very hip and sure to be successful.

Melinda Doolittle sang I Believe in You and Me, Nutbush City Limits and I’m a Woman - What a professional and to tackle a Whitney song and do it proud and then an Ike and Tina Turner song! She gave me goose bumps.

It's too bad one is not going to be in the final two. I can't see the final without Melinda and Jordin competing. That would be the best final in AI history. Sorry Blake.

American Idol - May 8th
I got upset with my wife tonight during AI. I said you used to watch the show with me, now you're briggling about and interupting the judges on Idol with questions about Kaiser co-pay. She said, "I'm just not into it this year." And there is the problem this year with American Idol, until tonight.

We know Melinda will be in the finals and now it appears that she will be joined by Jordin. Melinda is technically the much better singer after all she is a professional singer, even if it was as a back up singer. Jordin is 17! However, Jordin brings a freshness to her songs. When Melinda sings we see the craft and know how much preparation it requires to sing like she does. When we see Jordin sing, it seems effortless. I once watched John McEnroe play doubles tennis at the Memorial Coliseum. He was playing up at the net. I was awed by how casual he appeared and how deadly his volleys. He was a master swordsman with his racket. That's Jordin.

Melinda Doolittle sang Love You Inside Out and How Can You Mend A Broken Heart - she really can sing and she really interprets the song. Top two!

Blake Lewis sang You Should be Dancing and This Is Where I Came In - Blake chose one good song and the beat boxing and the moon walks and Devo moves are getting old. Bottom two.

LaKisha Jones sang Stayin’ Alive and Run to Me - I missed the falsetto in the first song, Maybe she chickened out. I don't care for the heavy handed way she sings. Bottom two.

Jordin Sparks sang To Love Somebody and Woman in Love - The first song was the song of the night. The second was short of Streisand, but she's only 17! Top two.

American Idol - May 1st
I was distracted tonight by calls during the show from my daughter, my buddy in Bend and B of A fraud protection. Mover Mike was unmoved by the songs. At this point there are no bad singers. I can see them all with record contracts. The story is really, who can generate the votes to compete with Melinda in the last show

Phil Stacey sang Blaze of Glory - Loved his voice, definitely country, just can't get past the bald white head and the black eye brows.

LaKisha Jones sang This Aint a Love Song - Ok, the singing was was pretty good. She's not, however, my idol. I just don't connect with her.

Chris Richardson sang Wanted Dead or Alive - He sang it well, but I found the song slightly boring and so too his act.

Melinda Doolittle sang Have a Nice Day - This woman can sing anything. The consummate professional. Best performance of the night

Blake Lewis sang You Give Love a Bad Name - Very original, but is it a gimmick? If he won, a classification of his act would have to be invented.

Jordin Sparks sang Livin’ on a Prayer - Simon said it was terrible. I disagree. It wasn't the right song for her and it was too low, however I think she can sing the right rock song. BTW, what they did to her last week was so without heart. Letting her think she would be eliminated, is just cruel!

Two go home. My guess, it's a popularity contest. Phil and LaKisha are going home.

American Idol - April 24th
You didn't have to wait up for Mover Mike to tell you this was the best AI show this season for consistent, all-around performances. All contestants stepped up their games. Check it out:

Chris Richardson sang Change the World - This was actually pretty good. Chris kept the melody intact, but added his own take on such a well known song. My only problem is that Chris is beginning to sound the same each week. The same moves and the same earnestness.

Melinda Doolittle sang There Will Come A Day - Melinda is a professional and AI is hers to lose. I think this was her best song yet. It was intense and I was on the verge of chills.

Blake Lewis sang Imagine - I really like this guy, but there was no Blake in the song. I sang it the same way in the shower.

LaKisha Jones sang I Believe - LaKisha is in trouble. First a Carrie Underwood song, and now a Fantasia song and Paula thought Fantasia did it better. Again, she can imitate, but can she originate like the others. By that I mean can she put her own stamp on the song. Last season McPhee did Barbara Streisand and Michael Bolton one better when she sang Since I Fell for You

Phil Stacey sang The Change - Phil has a very good voice and I can see him doing a lot of country. Not in the top three.

Jordin Sparks sang You’ll Never Walk Alone - The judges think this song was the best performance in six seasons. It was very good, BUT the judges have a short memory. Clarkson sang many great songs, including A Moment Like This. Then there was Fantasia version of Summertime and McPhee in Somewhere over the Rainbow, and don't forget Jennifer Hudson.

BOTTOM THREE: Blake Lewis, LaKisha Jones and Phil Stacey!

Update:

American Idol - April 17th
You have waited long enough. Mover Mike speaks:

Phil Stacey sang Where The Blacktop Ends - Excellent, he's a cowboy singer and he chose a good song. The only thing missing is the cowboy hat to cover the white man's bald head.

Jordin Sparks sang Broken Wing - Simon says she could win this thing. She is so darn cute and finally a song that I will replay again.

LaKisha Jones sang Jesus, Take the Wheel - this is not a happy woman. She took a Carrie Underwood song and sang it the same way as Carrie. There was nothing new and was actually boring. She is lost and there is no there, there.

Chris Richardson sang Mayberry - Martina said sing the song to make them believe you. How can I believe Chris about remembering Mayberry when he wasn't even alive when it was on TV? The song was too old for him.

Melinda Doolittle sang Trouble is a Woman - the winner of the night and one of the top two finalists with Jordin.

Blake Lewis sang When The Stars Go Blue - I had a little trouble with his falsetto and the shift back to a lower octave. He is NOT a country singer.

Sanjaya Malakar sang Let’s Give Them Something To Talk About - the "guy" sang a girl song. He doesn't deserve to be in the top ten, top nine, top eight, top seven and certainly not the top six!

Bottom three: Sanjaya, Chris and LaKisha.

Update:

American Idol - April 10th
Your wait is over. Mover Mike is here to drop some words.

Melinda Doolittle sang Sway - Safe and boring. I am waiting for her to give me goose bumps. This performance made my dad of 86 seem young.

Lakisha Jones sang Conga - Right now I don't think she will be in the top three. I just don't see anything original with her.

Chris Richardson sang Smooth - Oh ma Ga'odd! I would put him in the top four! Doesn't hurt to pick a Santana song.

Haley Scarnato sang Turn the Beat Around - Her legs aren't that great. Bottom three.

Phil Stacey sang Maria Maria - Part of me says Cancerman sounds a bit like Michael McDonald, another part says he sounds constipated.

Jordin Sparks sang Rhythm is Gonna Get You - I actually clapped when she was through. Maybe it wasn't her best, but she wowed me more than the other women. She made the song seem young.

Blake Lewis sang I Need To Know - The beat boxer did good. He was smart choosing a song by Marc Anthony.

Sanjaya Malakar sang Bésame Mucho - It actually was better than Haley's performance and I can see Latinos adopting him as one of their own.

AI started out so promising. I am still waiting for a ballad that sends me to the computer to download the song. Big snooze!

American Idol - March 27th
Ok, you've been waiting for my take on Americam Idol, so check it out.

Lakisha Jones sang Last Dance - She sang it just like the original and that's the problem; she is a great imitator!

Chris Sligh sang Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic - it was so memorable, I can't remember much about it.

Gina Glocksen sang I’ll Stand By You - Wonderful song and she is growing on me

Haley Scarnato sang True Colors

- such a wonderful package, but she sounds like she has never had an orgasm. I have heard the same kind of singing at a Miss America pageant!

Phil Stacey sang Every Breath You Take - I actually liked "Cancer Man" this week. I think it was the hat. I loved the song. It was perfect for him.

Melinda Doolittle sang Heaven Knows - Melinda is a consumate professional and I am never disappointed when she sings.

Blake Lewis sang Lovesong - One of two guys that is actually pretty good. Did you notice his hair? It looked much better than past weeks. The singing was a little bit boring.

Jordin Sparks sang Hey Baby - I liked her song last week better than this one, but she keeps growing and she is fun to watch and what a big ol' smile.

Chris Richardson sang Don’t Speak - another beautiful song and the other guy that can actually sing.

Sanjaya Malakar sang Bath Water - with a big old mohawk made with seven ponytails. He is so bad. He acts scared and forgets words. Please, not the top nine for Sanjaya.

What I've missed so far is that performance that just brings the hair up on your arms. A song that soars and demands that you download it. Last season there were several songs by McTata and who could forget Kelly Clarkson? Still waiting!

Dang! Ducks Lose 85 to 77.
Ducks fail to get offensive boards and Porter misses over eight threes and they come up short. High praise to Kent and his team for making the elite eight. Here's hoping they take it all the way next year.

Go Ducks!
Yes, I am a Beaver, but I want the Ducks to go all the way. Right now I have picked four of the final eight and have a chance to go 7 for 8! Go Ducks!

Update:

I have picked 7 of the final eight. I missed on Washington State getting to the final eight.

American Idol for March 20th
You've read every one else by now, but you really want to know what Mover Mike thinks about the performances on American Idol. Really, that was quite a show! The singers have grown from the first time we saw them, some more than others. Some because of their experience, know who they are and others are still seeking.

Haley Scarnato sang Tell Him - I saw some edginess tonight in her performance, which is good. The short shorts gave us a great view of her long, long legs , but did not disqualify her from singing on the Christian nusic station. It was her best performance. I see her as trying to be the Katharine McPhee of Season 6. Sex will keep her in the competition.

Chris Richardson sang Don’t Let The Sun Catch You Crying - that was his best performance. He really has a nice voice and I might even buy his CD. I can't wait to him him do country.

Stephanie Edwards sang You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me - one of my favorite songs from the British Invasion. I love Steph, however she has not grown in the last two weeks. Disappointing really, because I thought she was one of the top four or five. She needs to lose herself next week, if she makes the top ten, and really stick it or get down below the surface of the song or she will let herself down.

Blake Lewis sang Time Of The Season - hate his hair and his rainy day, NW pasty complexion, but he is smooth, voice and footwork. He really adds today to the old song.

LaKisha Jones sang Diamonds Are Forever - not my favorite performance. I know she can sing. I beginning to wonder if she is a great imitator of the original artist. I want to see if she has her own style. She is a big woman, but I lose sight of that fact when she start to sing. That's good.

Phil Stacey sang Tobacco Road - Cancer man sang it well. My problem, I just don't see him as an Americanm Idol.

Jordin Sparks sang I Who Have Nothing - for 17 or for any age, this girl can absolutely blow. I look forward to her performance each week and she nailed the song. And...she is pleasing to the eye.

Gina Glocksen sang Paint It Black - the great thing about AI is you get to hear some great songs. She is a rocker wannabe. Man I would pay good money to hear Storm Large sing this song. I don't think Gina is good enough yet.

Chris Sligh sang She’s Not There - another one of my favorite songs, but I felt a little let down with Chris tonight.

Melinda Doolittle sang As Long As He Needs Me - The performance of the night with Jordin second. Melinda closed her eyes after she sang and just let the crowd's roar of approval sink in and wash over her. She is starting to believe she is a headliner. That is thrilling to watch.

Finally, Sanjaya Malakar sang You Really Got Me - I was going to pray for something here, but I do not have a clue to God's will for Sanjaya. Let me just say Sanjaya is not a top ten talent.

See Ricky.org for direct link MP3 and video clip of each artist.

Katharine McPhee!
Thanks to Ricky.org we can see Katharine McPhee again:
